since posting my want to start a virtual community garden entry, i've been spending a lot of time at garden centers and nurseries. i have also figured out that a lot more of my balcony space gets direct sunlight than i previously thought. as a result, i'm now planning to grow herbs on my front balcony space (which gets morning/early afternoon) ( Read more... )

lately i've been thinking quite a bit about allocating the portion of my apartment balcony that gets afternoon sunlight to growing a small vegetable garden. because that area is tiny, the best way for me to maximize space would be to use upside-down planters and window box planters mounted on railing brackets. i have no idea what my yield will be ( Read more... )

so, i bought a small capsicum annuum (jalapeno) plant a couple of months back, repotted it and placed it in a sunny spot in my front garden, watered it somewhat regularly and watched it bloom and grow. at the moment there are well over a dozen peppers on it, all in varying states of maturity, none of which feels ripe. the biggest peppers are ( Read more... )

from their original purple, they become almost white, then yellow, orange and finally red. thw whole process is taking weeks and weeks and i'm feeling soooo impatient to try them. i can't wait for more of them to start turning colors...my little bush will look so pretty.
